The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority is preparing to make history this December. It will host the first-ever Shandur Ice Sports Challenge from December 24 to 28, 2024, at Shandur Top, the world’s highest sports ground.
Notably, local boys and girls will compete enthusiastically in ice hockey, curling, and speed skating. Furthermore, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to make this event an annual tradition. It will align with the famous Shandur Polo Festival at Shandur Lake and Polo Ground, adding to the region’s vibrant cultural celebrations.
Boosting Tourism and Local Culture
This winter festival promises to draw global attention. By combining competitive sports with Shandur’s stunning beauty, it offers a unique experience for visitors. Moreover, the breathtaking snow-covered landscapes will create a spectacular backdrop for the games.
Meanwhile, the event has already gained popularity in Gilgit-Baltistan, where a similar winter fair takes place at Pandar. As a result, organizers expect the festival to attract more tourists, especially to Chitral.
